Palo Santo is used in Peru to aid the healing of diseases and to purify the air. For this purpose, shavings of the wood are lighted, the flame is wiped out (not blown out, that drives away the good spirits!) and the living place is cleansed with the glowing shavings.

Wiraqoya grows in the Peruvian Andes at an altitude of more than 3800 m. Its strong earthy aroma is used to cleanse energies.Wiraqoya is traditionally used by the Q'eros Shamans as well as throughout the Peruvian Andes as an offering to the Apus (deities of the mountains), to maintain the presence of the spirit of fire when we do sacred fire ceremony. It is also offered to the spirits as food in Haywaricuy (Despacho) ceremonies, making Ayni (an offering of sacred reciprocity).
