Mestana / mesa cloths & their special meaning

In Spanish, mesa has several meanings. Mesa can be translated as "table", but also as "plain". It is therefore not surprising that mesa cloths / misha are used as tablecloths in Andean culture, for example. Buying a mestana can therefore also have an enchanting effect on your home and bring the culture of the Andes into your living room. The traditional colors and patterns of a mestana have a fascinating effect on everyone!

Use of mesas / misha
Medicine stones and objects are wrapped in the misha so that their energy can be better utilized. The sacred geometry woven into the misha cloths brings energy to the medicine stones. In the past and still today, mesa cloths are also used as birth cloths for babies. They help us to give birth anew on our life path and on our spiritual path.

Shamanic meaning
Another translation for the word mesa is "plain". Shamans from Peru associate this term with a high plateau in the mountains. Shamans often gather there to make contact with the spiritual world. The peace and tranquillity of this place allows the shaman to listen to the guidance of his spiritual advisors.

However, Peruvian shamans, called paqos, always carry a medicine bundle with them, the so-called misha. It is an important tool for a shaman in all healing work, ceremonies, prayers and divinations. It helps the paqo to ward off negative energies and to make contact with the spiritual world. Each mestana is absolutely unique and has a strong personal meaning!It is practically the portable altar and at the same time the diary of every shaman.The mesas / misha contain khuyas stones that are connected to different energies. Each khuyas comes from a paqo's station in life.This can be a place, a person, mountains, waters or something else with special meaning for the shaman. The ritual performed with the mestana helps you to organize your energy field. Unconscious thoughts often disorganize our energy field.

Bilding the Misha
Misha cloths are traditionally handmade in the Andes - and have been for thousands of years.They consist of two fabrics.

One is the outer cloth, also known as the "cloth of the universe".It represents the edge of matter, of antimatter, of sacred symbolism and the edge of the union of complex geometric shapes.Its symbols and colors have a traditional, ritual and spiritual meaning. The second cloth - the so-called Tawa Cucho - is an inner cloth consisting of four colors and is woven from alpaca wool.The inner cloth is made from the "cloth of the four fields" and consists of four square fields.These divide the dimensions of the universe into four energy quadrants on a ritual level. The tawa cucho represents the four cardinal points, four seasons, four elements.
